weekly round-up / nyc

happy labor day! i hope today has been as laborless for you as it has for me. with exception to an errand i ran this morning, i’ve spent most of the day catching up on keeping up with the kardashians in various sleeping positions. i have no shame because i only have hulu for a month. holler.

KUWTK shenanigans aside, yesterday marked another week longer of being in the city. weeks here are full, bustling, and filled: there are adventures on every corner, lining every street, filling every stop and it makes for weeks that are brimming with delight.

. . . . .

in which i discover that the first day of classes synonymous with buying gelato:

Monday marked day one of classes here at the FIT and when they wrapped up for the day, I still had time to kill and a belly to fill. I headed out to fifth to try out what is now my favorite gelato place: eataly. I devoured the salted caramel cream before I could snap a picture of it but I did get to enjoy these sites while I filled my belly with sweetness.

in which i finally have a full day out and use it window shopping:

my usual day-off activity in this city is going onto fifth, are we surprised? it stretches on endlessly with so many places to explore, i’ve really only mapped out 1/8 of the street. there’s so much more discover. i spent most of the morning/afternoon in club monaco. the store is complete with a satellite store of the strand, a florist, and of course the infamous toby’s estate coffee.

MET up with a few mishaps:

after a few miscommunications, I found myself on the Upper-East Side with nothing to do. So I embraced my inner serena van der woodsen and enjoyed what the beautiful museum had to offer and I was not disappointed. currently at the met, there is a conde nast feature, chronicling technology in fashion. It displays renowned  designers from around the world, Givenchy to Dior to Chanel. Manus x Machina is a jawdropping exhibit. 10/10 rec.

my roommate had a visitor so i set off to explore by myself. i ended up going to Ralph’s Coffee on the second floor of Ralph Lauren on (SHOCKER) fifth ave, near the rockefeller center. it was lazy and delightful and i spent the overcast saturday morning, journaling with a pretty mocha.

after church, lunch, and grocery-shopping, we were all ready for a little chill time. we headed down to madison square park and enjoyed some music in the park, complete with chubby little toddlers bopping along to the barbershop quartette.

$2 lattes are the best thing.

$2 lattes (count me in) from the coffee shop down the road, journaling, and walking around our (not so little) backyard. i love this city so much. the hustle, the bustle, the music of a thousand dreams.

next week? i’m (so) ready for you.

red, white, + teal

Good morning!

Well, we’ve jumped back into the swing of things. Unfortunately, with the end of Thanksgiving comes a huge load of homework. Despite that somber thought, for the first day back at classes, I decided to embrace the holiday spirit and don a red shirt with a statement necklace. Christmas is one of my favorite times of the year. Happy music, happy hearts, happy faces. Happy, right?

my preppy pencil case + it’s contents

Well, I’m slacking again. I can’t say there is any excuse as to why I am doing so. Only, schoolwork. Which, surprisingly, isn’t coming in vast amounts (yayayay!). Needless to say, I’m letting you guys down! I posted last weekend (I think!) and here I am this weekend, posting this without having given you guys anything good to read in-between. So, here I am, apologizing again, for the slacking AGAIN. It’s bound to happen again, so this is not the last time you will hear me apologizing.

HOWEVER, I would like to know what you guys want me to write about so comment down there in the comment section telling meeee! Orrr just to say that you read my blog. Sometimes I feel like I’m not writing to anyone because I never hear from you guys (excluding the likes – thanks for those! They make me feel so happy. :)).

In August, I resolved to myself that I would have the best school supplies(HOLY WOW that sounds conceited). But, I mean, c’mon! Who doesn’t want to be the most fashionable accessorize(r) in the school supplies department?!

f you don’t, you’re lying to yourself.

School supplies happen to be one of my favorite things about the school year! There is just something so fantastic about the smell of new Jackie binders. Something so satisfactory about whipping out a super cute notebook or unzipping the perfect pencil case. So, going along with the title, today, I’m talking to you about…{drum roll pretty please with a prada gift card on top(do they even exist?)}

my pencil case.

Yep! That’s right. I’m talking about this baby.

ImageImage

The night before school started, I was pencil case-less. I’ve never been real keen on having to walk around with a pencil case but I saw this DIY and jumped on it. I picked out a nice mustard yellow and navy blue to color block it with along with a yellow and taupe polka-dotted material for the interior lining. It took approximately 3 hours to make. Probably because I had to call my mom in to help every five minutes. But, I’m SO SO happy with the way it turned out! Whipping out my pencil case is no longer something embarrassing. I’m not whipping out a nerdy thing that makes a loud noise and is the most 70ish shade of green you can get. I’m unzipping a DIY that’s…adorable!

So there’s my rant. About my pencil case.

Anyways. Inside of that uber adorable, mustard + navy bag are my pencil bag’s contents. Now, this is where it begins to get mundane. It’s a pencil case. For pencils. (hence the name) Granted, these are things you find in every pencil case, but, whatever.

First, I have my lotion!

Image

A girl cannot be without lotion during the school months. This is Jergens’ healing lotion that smells like amazingness.

*I have no clue whatsoever as to where you can find it[because I found this in a random box]*

I would highly suggest it(if you can find it). I find that it immediately soothes itching, dry skin and smells fabulous.

Next, hand sanitizer.

Image

ALL THE GERMIFOBES PUTCHYO HANDS UPP.

I am a germifobe. Therefore, I cannot start eating a meal without

a) washing my hands

and/or

b) applying purell.

Last year, I went through goodness knows how many bath and body works hand sanitizer bottles because I am 100% a germifobe. Also, if you’re looking for a better smelling purell then this one, I got the Paris Amour from b&bw and I looove it to death!

Post-it notes!

Image

I cannot go to school without my post it notes. I use them for everything! Literature (marking things I like in a book), bookmarks, reminders, and homework assignments(see agenda + organization). (I’m already basically through my first post it note stack. It’s been a week. Oh boy.)

Index cards.

Image

I use index cards so much during the school year! Whether it be for writing down definitions of words for Spanish, biology, etc. or just jotting down homework assignments so I can organize them in my agenda – I use them from the beginning to the end. 🙂

Pencils and pens.

Image

I don’t really have to explain this one.

And lastly, stickers.

Image

They make notebooks prettier, homework assignments way more fun, and just by looking at the kittens on these babies, I’m happy.

♥ ♥ ♥ ♥

Okay, dolls. Thus concludes my pencil case + it’s contents post. I apologize for how mundane this is, but I thought y’all might want to see it. 🙂 If you haven’t already, hop on over to my twitter & instagram! I would love to see you all there. AND don’t forget to leave comments on what you want to see!

♥ ♥ ♥ ♥

Happy weekend-ing to you all!

Love you loads.

Agenda + Organization

Hello, dolls!

Can you believe it’s September? The summer is over and call me crazy I’m so excited to be back in school. Not because I like school, because if it was between school and shopping you guys know which one I’d pick ;). I get so excited to be back in a routine. I get to see my friends more than I have in the summer, and of course, who DOESN’T get excited about sweater weather?! I mean, c’mon. You’re lying to yourself if you don’t get super hyped about it. Anyways, with the turning of the months, the new arrivals in your wardrobe, and the ending of the first week of school, comes the laziness. I know for me, in past years, after the first couple of days have passed, I’ve gotten very passive with my school. More so, in how I use my agenda. Today, I am going to talk to you all about how I organize my school work in a way that keeps me motivated, makes me happy and is adorable.

♥ You need a cute, functional agenda.

This year, I purchased the Lilly Pulitzer agenda (ranging from $17-34) and so far, I am incredibly happy with the functionality and the cuteness of it! However, if you don’t like the whole preppy thing I would also suggest the Kate Spade agendas(Which are almost double what you pay for a LP one-$49). They definitely aren’t as fun (meaning, they don’t have bright colors like Lilly’s do), but they’re a little bit more on the chic side.

agenda

I want to warn you guys that if you are interested in buying a “cute” agenda, you are going to have to pay a bit of money. Especially if it’s a designer label. You can easily find a plain black agenda and decorate it for under $10, but, it’s not going to have the same vibes that the others do.

ImageImage

my lilly agenda.

And for function, I prefer agendas that have a month-by-month set up as well as a day-by-day. Both Kate Spade and Lilly Pulitzer have these. The primary reason for this is so you can have a calendar for your everyday life whilst being able to have enough room to write down homework assignments of the day. I find that it’s much easier when they’re laid out like that!

Image

tabs that help you know where everything is! 🙂

♥Color Coordination

Color coordination is the easiest way to get the most out of your agenda. I usually use colored pencils and/or markers I find around the house BUT gel pens are definitely an even better way of using your planner. I recommend these  pens or these flairs.

Write down your subjects in the designated colors to save space. 🙂 Works like a dream!

Now onto organization of the school in your agenda.

In the Lilly agenda, there are two sets of monthly calendars, there are all 16 months at the beginning next to each other, but once you get to the individual months they have the monthly spread before the day-by-day layout of the month. I use the first of the two monthly layouts for my everyday life, as my calendar, and the second, I lay out school activities, when projects/papers are due, etc (not homework though!)

Image

month layout (or part of it, for that matter.)

Image

day by day layout.

I would recommend that you don’t immediately put your homework directly onto your agenda. I usually have index cards, and I jot the homework on there. The reason I say this is that in order to pay attention in class you shouldn’t be laying out your week there. I wait until I get home to do all that.

The next thing I recommend is to organize your work so you have equal parts each day. Take what your assigned and divided it by 5 so that you have the same amount of the subject every day. This helps with stress, over-exertion, and to just keep everything maintained so you can come into class prepared!

Also, another helpful, and mundane recommendation is to use a highlighter to cross of your work. For me, it’s super nice to feel like I’ve actually accomplished something SO I use a nice bright pink highlighter. 🙂

Image

ALSO, if you don’t have enough room in your agenda, I would suggest post-it notes on the day you have to do the stuff – this particular time, I just wanted all my assignments for one class on a postit note so I wouldn’t forget anything!)

aaaaaaand that’s basically it guys! I know it’s not crazy helpful, but these are just some things that I do to help myself be organized. 🙂

Happy Saturday, lovely!
